Gurugram Metro Update: Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) officials on Tuesday stated that the construction for the first phase of the much-awaited Gurugram metro is set to begin on September 5. While providing details, the officials further stated that the authority has planned 'Bhoomi Poojan' on September 5, adding that urban affairs minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Haryana chief minister Naib Singh Saini will participate in the pooja. The officials also stated that the operation of the Gurugram metro will significantly boost the regional connectivity. They added the metro services will significantly provide relief to the thousands of commuters by cutting the travel time and reducing traffic congestion.
While providing details, GMRL managing director Chander Shekhar Khare stated that the authority will ensure that the construction is carried out on a fast pace, reported the Hindustan Times. He further stated that the metro service will also give a boost to the financial activities in the city. “The bhoomi poojan will mark a historic day for the city. We plan to build the metro at a fast pace. The contractor has been asked to mobilise the site bythe middle of this month," Khare was quoted as saying by HT.
While defining the moment "historic", Khare stated that the authority will try to finalise the tender for the second phase of the Gurugram metro. "We have also taken up geo-technical survey of the second phase so that tender for the second phase can also be finalised at the earliest. The ground breaking ceremony will be a historic occasion for the city,” he added.
The residents of Gurugram have been complaining about poor connectivity for the past several years. The continuous rainfall has led to waterlogging in several key areas of the city, leading to inconveniences for the daily commuters.
