Gurugram Metro Update: In a major update for the commuters, the Haryana government has approved the fund for construction of the second phase of the Gurugram Metro. The Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) officials, while providing details, stated that a total of Rs 1,662-crore has been approved for the key metro project. They further stated that the corridor will connect several key areas of the city, providing a major boost to the regional connectivity.

Corridor To Link Key Regions 

As per the reports, the elevated corridor will have a total of 14 stations and connect Sector 9 with DLF Cyber City through Old Gurugram. The metro route will boost the connectivity by reducing the traffic congestion in the key regions and cutting the travel time.

The trains on this corridor will pass through several regions, including Sector 7, Sector 4, Sector 5, Ashok Vihar, Sector 3, Bajghera Road, Palam Vihar Extension, Palam Vihar, Sector 23A, Sector 22, Udyog Vihar Phase 4, Udyog Vihar Phase 5 and DLF Cyber City, reported Hindustan Times.

Fund To Be Utilised For Other Projects 

The officials, while providing details, stated that the tender of the total amount will be floated within a week, adding that it will improve the overall travel experience of the commuters. Along with the metro corridor, the fund will also be utilized for other projects.

"The Haryana government has approved the tender for civil construction of phase two of the project from Sector 9 to Cyber City. The tender of Rs 1662 crore will be floated within a week. Apart from constructing the metro corridor, the tender also includes building double-decker stretches at Bajghera and a longer stretch of double-decker stretches on Old Delhi Road," a senior GMRL official was quoted as saying by Moneycontrol.

Earlier in May, citing inflation and revised GST rates, the authority had revised the overall cost of the metro project from Rs 5,452 crore to Rs 10,266 crore.
