Gurugram Water Supply Disruption: The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has announced a water supply disruption in half of the parts of city. The areas where water is supplied through the Chandu Budhera Water Treatment Plant are facing a 30-hour water supply cut, which started at 11:00 am on Monday.

The normal water supply will be restored on the next day (Tuesday) at around 5:00 pm in the evening. According to GMDA officials, there will be no water supply from the master water supply of Chandu plant from 11 am on April 7 to 5 pm on April 8.

The water flow has been restrained for these long hours from the water plant because of the connection of the fourth phase 100 MLD plant to the existing pipeline from the Chandu plant.

These areas to remain affected

The areas that are facing shutdown are Sector 4, Sector 5, Sector 7, Sector 9, Sector 11 and 12, Sector 81 to 115, Dayanand Colony, Old Gurugram, Laxman Vihar, and Choti Mata Boosting Station.

Moreover, the areas of Village Chandu and Dhankot, Sector 10, Sector 33, Sector 37D and 38, and Boosting Station Sector 51 (Sector 42-74, Village Badshahpur) will also not get water.

Gurugram to get 100 MLD additional water after new unit

Once the unit is completed, the city will get 100 MLD of additional water supply. The addition is expected to provide major relief from the severe drinking water crisis that hurts the city during summer. Currently, the capacity of the Chandu Budhera plant is 300 MLD. With the start of the new unit, the capacity of the plant will increase to 400 MLD.

Notably, every year between April to June, the demand for water exceeds the supply. The irrigation department supplies canal water to GMDA's Chandu Budhera and Basai water treatment plants. The capacity of these two plants is 570 MLD, but during summer, the demand for water reaches above 600 MLD. To meet this shortage, the corporation's borewells are being operated.
