Gurugram Weather Update: The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Gurgaon as temperatures in the city are expected to surge by 3-5 degrees Celsius next week. Reportedly, during the day, temperatures are likely to reach 40-42 degrees while heatwave conditions are likely to prevail from Sunday to Tuesday (April 7-9). 

However, the residents of the city may get a sigh of relief with Western Disturbance on April 9-10, which is likely to reduce the temperatures by 2-3 degrees.

Earlier today, the minimum temperature dropped slightly to 16.9 degrees Celsius from 17.5 degrees Celsius yesterday. 

Meanwhile, the temperature during the day also lowered marginally to 34.6 degrees Celsius from 36.3 degrees Celsius on Friday, which is slightly above average. 

As per the weather department, the dip in mercury is due to westerly winds blowing at 22 kmph however, it predicted that the temperature may rise in the city in the coming days.

In the next three days, there will be a gradual increase in maximum temperatures by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius across several parts of the state.

Moreover, Gurugram and other isolated pockets of South Haryana may experience heatwave conditions. 

It is noteworthy that the IMD declares a heatwave condition when temperatures soar to 40°C or higher, at least 4.5°C above normal. The weather department warns that moderate heat is manageable for most people, but a heatwave poses a "moderate health risk" for the elderly, infants, and those with chronic illnesses.

The weather department has advised people not to go out in direct sunlight during a time of heatwave alert. If necessary, cover the entire body with light and bright coloured cotton clothes. The head should also be properly covered while going out.

Apart from scorching weather, the city is also battling poor air quality. Although the AQI is 184, in the moderate category, it has worsened today and is likely to drop to poor tomorrow.
