In Gurugram, a woman and her child were held at gunpoint by their cab driver, who stole their money and personal things. BluSmart's driver threatened a woman and forced her to transfer Rs 55,000 to his bank account.
The shocking incident took place last Friday when the woman and her son booked a BluSmart cab at Gurugram's Airia Mall, heading to their residence in Gurugram Sector 86. As the vehicle neared Sector 83, the driver abruptly stopped, pointed a gun at the woman, and demanded she transfer the money via UPI. Additionally, the accused cab driver also stole her bag before ordering both mother and son out of the car and fleeing the scene.
The driver was eventually identified as Sonu Singh, a resident of Uttar Pradesh who was residing as a tenant in Gurugram. He was right away arrested and is now in police custody. Authorities have also acknowledged that they are seeking to get back the money that was taken after questioning the suspect.
BluSmart's Response to the Incident
Following the robbery, BluSmart expressed great regret and reaffirmed its commitment to passenger safety in a statement on social media platform X. The firm issued a statement emphasising its strict safety standards, which include thorough background checks, in-person interviews, driving tests, and the use of facial recognition technology to authenticate driver identities. Despite these efforts, the organisation recognised the importance of continuous improvement and attention in preventing such tragedies.

BluSmart apologised to the suffering family and offered them of their full assistance. The statement read, "The safety and security of our riders is our utmost priority. We have stringent onboarding processes, including mandatory background checks, face-to-face interviews, and driving tests. Our technology platform incorporates facial recognition to verify driver identities and a dedicated safety helpline for riders. Despite these measures, this unfortunate incident highlights the need for constant vigilance and improvement," it stated.
The private company also said that it would improve its safety standards and take additional precautions to avoid similar mishaps in the future.
Furthermore, BluSmart founder Anmol Singh Jaggi expressed his shock and dissatisfaction, adding that their riders' safety is the company's foundation. He praised the BluSmart team's quick response, which resulted in the driver's arrest within 24 hours of the event. Jaggi emphasised that BluSmart would continue to improve its driver training and safety measures.
