The Canadian authorities on Saturday nabbed a fourth Indian in the probe linked with the killing of Khalistani leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team of Canada's British Columbia (BC) province announced they had arrested Amandeep Singh, adding that the latter was already in the custody of the Ontario Police for firearms charges in an unrelated case.

“We pursued the evidence and gained sufficient information for the BC Prosecution Service to charge Amandeep Singh with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder,” the police statement said.

The authorities said Singh’s arrest was part of a probe to hold accountable people involved in the killing of Nijjar. “This arrest shows the nature of on our ongoing investigations to hold responsible those who played a role in the homicide of Hardeep Singh Nijjar,” the statement added.

This came days after three Indians, who were arrested in Nijjar’s killing, were presented before a Canadian court through video for the first time. Nijjar’s Killing:

Khalistan Tiger Force chief Hardeep Singh Nijjar was killed on June 18 last year after being shot by unidentified assailants in Surrey, Canada. He was also the head of the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara Sahib. Nijjar was India’s one of the most-wanted terrorists and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) declared a cash reward of Rs 10 lakh on him.

A diplomatic tussle ensued between India and Canada after Justin Trudeau, while addressing the parliament, said their agencies were actively perusing ‘credible allegations’ of potential links between agents of the government of India in the killing of a Canadian citizen (referring to the murder of Khalistani leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Surrey on June 18).
