Haryana IPS Officer’s Death: Haryana Additional Chief Secretary D Suresh Kumar on Friday called for a "fair and quick investigation" and the immediate arrest of those accused in connection with the death of senior IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, who was found dead at his residence in Chandigarh under suspicious circumstances.
Speaking to reporters, Additional Chief Secretary D Suresh Kumar said, "We have requested for fair and quick investigation and immediate arrest of DGP Shatrujeet Kapoor and SP Rohtak..."
These remarks came after an FIR was filed against Haryana Director General of Police (DGP) Shatrujeet Singh Kapur and Rohtak Superintendent of Police (SP) Narendra Bijarniya, based on a complaint by IAS officer Amneet Puran Kumar, the wife of the deceased.
Earlier on Friday, Chandigarh Police announced the creation of a six-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to carry out a thorough and impartial inquiry into the case amid serious allegations related to the senior IPS officer’s death.
The SIT, established under the guidance of Inspector General of Police (IGP) UT Chandigarh Pushpendra Kumar, will probe the case registered at Police Station Sector-11 (West) under Sections 108 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 3(1)(r) of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.
The SIT comprises IGP Pushpendra Kumar as head, along with SSP Kanwardeep Kaur, SPICity KM Priyanka, DSP Traffic Charanyit Singh Vik, SOPO South Qujt Kaur, and SHO PS-11 (West) Jarveer Singh Rana.
Officers may co-opt additional experts as required to expedite the collection of evidence, the examination of witnesses, and the preparation of the final report, according to a statement.
Reacting to the incident, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Malvinder Singh Kang questioned the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Haryana government over the incident and urged it to heed the family's demands and take "action against the concerned officer".
"I question the Government of India, where are you taking the country?... It raises many questions on the BJP government in Haryana...He was an asset to this country...I request the Haryana government to consider the demands of the family and take action against the concerned officer..." AAP MP said.
Meanwhile, Congress MP Varun Chaudhry also demanded a fair probe and additional protection for the bereaved family. Outlining his three demands, the MP said, "I had 3 demands...The 2 prime accused, DGP Haryana and SSP Rohtak, should have their names displayed in the column (in the FIR). Secondly, for the inquiry to be fair, the chairmanship of the high court should be represented by a sitting judge, and third, the family members should be provided security..." the congress MP said.
A day earlier, the wife of late IPS officer Y Puran Kumar had written a detailed letter to the Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini seeking immediate registration of an FIR, suspension and arrest of the accused named in her husband's suicide note and complaint, along with lifelong security for the bereaved family.
