Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday reached a village in Haryana’s Karnal district to meet the family of a young man who was injured in a road accident in the United States. The Congress leader met the youngster identified as Amit Maan during his visit to the US this month, news agency PTI reported citing villagers. 

Local Congress leaders said that they had no prior information about Gandhi’s visit to Karnal’s Ghoghripur village. The villagers said that Amit’s family had sold off their land to send their son abroad. 

The villagers reportedly said that during his recent visit to the US, Rahul met Maan and assured him that he would visit his family after returning to India. Gandhi fulfilled his promise after reaching Ghoghripur village at around 6 am on Friday. The locals also expressed his gesture.

Gandhi’s surprise visit to meet the family of the injured comes at a time when Assembly elections in Haryana are scheduled to be held on October 5. 

Voting for the 90-member legislative assembly in Haryana will be held on October 5. The result will be announced on October 8 along with that in Jammu and Kashmir.
