Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin urged newlyweds across the country to plan kids on an urgent basis to do away with the disadvantages of the delimitation exercise in the state. At an event in Nagapattinam, CM Stalin sarcastically asked couples to plan families amid the evolving situation in light of the Union Government's proposed delimitation scheme, as per a report by .
He said that, in the past, he would advise newlywed couples to take their time before starting a family. However, given the circumstances created by the new delimitation measures, Stalin expressed that such advice was no longer applicable. Instead, he would now encourage newlyweds to start their families immediately and ensure that their children are given meaningful Tamil names.

Notably, Lok Sabha seats are allocated to states based on their population. As the government mulls a delimitation exercise, Tamil Nadu fears the seats may be slashed as the state has witnessed a dip in population over the last few years.
The government is set to begin the next national census in 2025 after a four-year delay. The survey will start in 2025 and is anticipated to be completed by 2026. After the census, the process of delimitation will start, with this task expected to be concluded by 2028. This will redefine Lok Sabha constituencies across the country.
DMK leader and CM Stalin have argued that the upcoming delimitation could put southern states at a disadvantage. He pointed out that these states have successfully implemented family planning over the years, and this focus on population control could work against them when delimitation is based on demographic changes. As a result, southern states may have less representation in Parliament despite their significant contributions to the country’s GDP and their success in managing population growth for the nation’s benefit.
