Rekha Gupta, BJP MLA from Shalimar Bagh, was sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Delhi on Thursday, putting an end to weeks of speculation about who would lead the union territory after BJP’s victory in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections. She becomes the ninth Chief Minister of the capital, following BJP’s decisive win.

Rekha Gupta’s appointment sparked social media buzz after a user linked a well-known advertisement jingle to BJP and its women leaders. The original jingle—“Hema, Rekha, Jaya aur Sushma, sabki pasand Nirma”—was modified to “Hema, Rekha, Jaya aur Sushma, sabki pasand Bhajpa,” featuring Hema Malini, Rekha Gupta, Jaya Prada and Sushma Swaraj. The meme quickly gained traction, with many users reacting with amusement and nostalgia.

While several users celebrated the creativity of the meme, while others criticised BJP's decision to appoint Gupta. Some hailed the jingle as a “legendary melody,” while others called it a reflection of “unity and strength.”

Rekha Gupta's Old Tweets Spark Controversy 

Additionally, shortly after her appointment, several of Rekha Gupta’s old tweets resurfaced, leading to another wave of online discussions. Netizens compared her past remarks to dark humour, suggesting that she had previously trolled political opponents. 

A meme featured YouTubers Samay Raina, Ranveer Allahbadia and Apoorva Mukhija aka The Rebel Kid, who were recently embroiled in the “India’s Got Latent” controversy, saluting Rekha Gupta for her dark humour and past controversial posts.

A user even compared Rekha Gupta’s posts to inappropriate comedy, stating, “Her posts are darker than what we saw in the ‘India’s Got Latent’ controversy.” Meanwhile, a user demanded action against those sharing memes about the new CM. A person tagged Delhi Police, urging them to take action against an account posting derogatory content about Gupta.

Rekha Gupta won the Shalimar Bagh seat by over 29,000 votes, defeating AAP candidate Bandana Kumari in the February 5 Assembly elections. BJP emerged victorious in the Delhi elections, securing 48 out of 70 seats, while AAP managed to win 22.
