For the first time in 27 years, Jamnapaar’s representation in the Delhi government’s cabinet has declined to just one. Out of the 16 assembly constituencies in the area, only Karawal Nagar MLA Kapil Mishra has secured a ministerial position in the new cabinet. This marks a reduction from the previous AAP-led government, which had two ministers from the region, which is also one of Delhi’s most densely populated areas.

Previous AAP Ministers From Jamnapaar

In the previous administration, Patparganj MLA Manish Sisodia, who served as Deputy Chief Minister, handled key portfolios including Finance, Public Works, Education, Tourism, Planning, Land & Building, Vigilance, Services and Art, Culture & Language. Additionally, Rajendra Pal Gautam from Seemapuri was in charge of Social Welfare, SC & ST, Cooperative and Women & Child Development ministries.

Kapil Mishra's Political Journey

Kapil Mishra first contested the Karawal Nagar assembly seat in 2015 on an AAP ticket, defeating BJP’s veteran leader and four-time MLA Mohan Singh Bisht. Following his victory, he was appointed as the Water Minister. However, he later rebelled against AAP and joined the BJP.

Kapil Mishra gained prominence in 2020 during the anti-NRC protests in Jamnapaar, positioning himself as a strong right-wing leader. His influence grew, leading the BJP to field him from Karawal Nagar again in 2025, where he secured another victory. His ministerial appointment in the new BJP government reflects his experience and growing stature within the party.

Representation Of Jamnapaar In Delhi Cabinets

In 1993, when BJP first formed a government in Delhi, MLAs from Ghonda and Krishna Nagar were given ministerial berths. During Congress rule, two ministers were selected from Jamnapaar, while AAP also appointed several MLAs from the area in its tenure. However, the latest BJP government has reduced Jamnapaar’s representation despite winning 11 out of 16 seats in the region.
