JE News Desk: Shimla will soon get the highest cable bridge in Asia. Authorities have planned to build a cable bridge under the Shimla-Kalka Four Lane project at Chamiyana near the capital, Shimla. The height of the bridge will be 148 metres and it will be 540 metres long. The cable bridge will be supported by pillars of 240 metres.
The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has provided the complete proposal to the district administration for the construction of the bridge which will be Asia’s highest cable bridge after its construction.
The local administration said the bridge will be developed as a tourist attraction. Locals are also optimistic about the construction of the bridge as it will enhance connectivity and will help the development of the region.
The construction work of the cable bridge will be done under the Shimla-Kalka fourlane project which is currently under construction. In the first phase of the Shimla-Kalka fourlane project, 17 km of the highway up to Shakral has to be constructed, and in the next phase, 11 km of highway will be structured. The work of Asia’s highest cable bridge will start in the last phase of the Shimla-Kalka fourlane project where 28 km of highway will be constructed from Dhalli to Kaithlighat.
The first phase of the project is under construction after the authorities received orders for the forest clearance but the work for the last phase is still on hold as forest clearance orders are awaited. The approval of forest clearance for the third phase of the project may take some more time.
