Himachal Snowfall: Heavy snowfall continues to disrupt life across Himachal Pradesh, with roads blocked and hundreds of tourists stranded in sub-zero conditions. According to the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC), 832 roads, including three National Highways, remain closed, with Lahaul-Spiti being the worst affected.
In view of a fresh western disturbance, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow and orange alert for January 26 and 27, warning of widespread snowfall and rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds reaching between 50 and 70 kmph. Authorities have advised both residents and tourists to avoid unnecessary travel and take precautions against the extreme cold conditions.
Himachal Pradesh Weather: IMD Warns Of More Snowfall, Orange And Yellow Alert Issued
- The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow and orange alert, forecasting widespread snowfall and rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds reaching up to 50-70 kmph across the state.
- Chamba, Kullu, Kinnaur, and Lahaul-Spiti have been placed under an orange alert due to the heavy snowfall and strong winds, while the remaining eight districts will remain under a yellow alert on January 26 and 27.
- While no formal warning has been issued for January 28 and 29, adverse weather conditions are likely to persist in high-altitude areas.
- While skies are likely to clear up on January 30, another spell of bad weather is forecast from January 31 onwards, the IMD said.

Himachal Pradesh Temperatures Today
- A cold wave has tightened its grip over Himachal Pradesh, pushing minimum temperatures below freezing in several towns.
- Manali and Narkanda recorded -1.1°C, Kukumsheri plunged to -7.9°C, and Tabo dipped to -10°C.
- Kalpa saw -4°C, while Dharamshala and Reckong Peo recorded -0.6°C and -0.7°C, respectively, and Sarahan dropped to -0.3°C.
- Temperature in Kurfi hovered just above freezing at 0.1°C, with Shimla at 2.5°C, Palampur 2.0°C, Solan 3.0°C, and Jubbarhatti 2.0°C.
Over 800 Closed, Power Hit Across Himachal Pradesh
- According to the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC), 832 roads, including three National Highways, have been closed.
- Lahaul-Spiti is the worst affected, with 280 roads and two highways shut, while Shimla has 234, Mandi 110, Chamba 78, and Kullu 64 roads blocked.
- Power supply has also been severely impacted, with 1,942 transformers non-functional. Shimla has the highest number of outages at 789, followed by Sirmaur, Mandi, Chamba, and Kullu.
- Authorities are working to restore connectivity and power supply as soon as possible.
