Himachal Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh. The state has been experiencing persistent bad weather for the past few months. Monsoon-related incidents have already claimed 166 lives in Himachal Pradesh since June 20, and 40 people are still missing, according to data released by the state government on Saturday.

Himachal Weather: These Districts To Receive Rainfall

The IMD has issued an orange alert for Kangra, Mandi, and Sirmaur districts on August 31, while yellow alerts cover Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Shimla, and other plains and mid-hill regions.

According to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), the ongoing monsoon season has resulted in a loss of Rs 3,040 crore, due to 91 flash floods, 45 cloudbursts, and 93 landslides. Situation, however, improved in the Pong Dam of Kangra district during the day as the water level reduced from 1,391.62 feet on Saturday evening. 

According to an official water inflow, recorded at 1.76 lakh cusecs, has reduced to 1.17 lakh cusecs by evening. Outflow into the Shah Nehar barrage was recorded at 1.1 lakh cusecs. In Shimla's Rampur district, incessant rainfall and landslides damaged five houses in two villages – Sheel Prog and Thala, injuring two people.

As the state government continues relief and rescue operations, including pressing choppers into service in Chamba and Lahaul and Spiti districts, nearly 6,000 pilgrims of the Manimahesh Yatra have been evacuated from Chamba district.

842 Roads Closed

The devastating floods in Himachal Pradesh have led to the closure of 842 roads, which include three national highways, including Mandi-Dharampur, Aut-Sainj, and the Old Hindustan Tibet road (NH-05) in Kinnaur. Restoration work has been in process on these roads since Saturday.
