The Indian Railways has proposed running two extra Holi special trains from Lucknow to Delhi and one to Mumbai to accommodate the rising number of travelers. Over eight thousand passengers traveling from Delhi, Mumbai, and other cities to Lucknow for Holi are currently on railway waiting lists. While trains like the Lucknow Mail and AC Express are heavily booked, seats remain available on premium services such as the AC Double Decker, Shatabdi, and Vande Bharat Express. Notably, reservations on the IRCTC Tejas Express have been suspended for March 4th.

Seat Availability And Alternatives

Travelers from Delhi to Lucknow still have options despite high demand. More than a thousand seats are available on the Anand Vihar-Lucknow Junction Double Decker on February 27th, March 1st, and March 3rd. Similarly, the Anand Vihar-Ayodhya Vande Bharat Express also has comparable availability. The Shatabdi Express has open seats on most days, except February 28th. These trains provide passengers with a chance to avoid long waits while still reaching Lucknow in time for the festival.

Trains With High Waiting Lists

Several popular trains to Lucknow, including the Gorakhdham Express and Kaifiyat Express, are showing "Regret" status from February 27th to March 3rd, meaning even waiting list tickets are unavailable in sleeper and AC classes. Trains serving Purvanchal and Bihar, such as the Lucknow Mail, AC Express, Padmavat Express, Pushpak Express, LTT-Sitapur Express, and the Yesvantpur-Lucknow and Raptisagar Express, have already seen their waiting lists fill up soon after bookings opened 60 days in advance. Passengers planning to travel during this period are advised to check alternative trains and premium services for availability.

Waiting List For Major Trains On February 27

On February 27, waiting lists remained high on several major trains operating on key routes. The Lucknow Mail (12230) shows significant waiting with 88 in Sleeper, 69 in 3AC, 47 in 3AC-3E and 53 in 2AC. The Padmavat Express (14208) has a waiting list of 89 in Sleeper, while all AC classes are under regret.

The Ayodhya Express (14206) is fully under regret across all classes. The Pushpak Express (12534) has regret in Sleeper, with waiting lists of 63 in 3AC, 49 in 3AC-3E and 38 in 2AC. The Panvel-Gorakhpur Express (15066) shows a waiting of 49 in 3AC, while Sleeper and 2AC are under regret. 

The LTT-Sitapur Express (12107) has a heavy waiting list of 133 in Sleeper and 67 in 3AC, with 2AC under regret. The LTT-Lucknow AC Express (22121) shows a waiting list of 114 in 3AC and 40 in 2AC. The Yesvantpur-Lucknow Express (12539) has waiting lists of 137 in Sleeper, 62 in 3AC and 16 in 2AC. The Yesvantpur-Gorakhpur Express (22534) shows a waiting of 128 in 3AC and 44 in 2AC, while Sleeper is under regret.

The Sabarmati Express (19165) is under regret in Sleeper, 3AC and 3AC-3E, with a waiting list of 16 in 2AC. The Guwahati Express (15635) has a waiting of 71 in Sleeper, with other classes under regret. The Chennai-Lucknow Express (16093) shows waiting lists of 79 in Sleeper, 42 in 3AC and 13 in 2AC.
