At least two people have been arrested, and the principal has been booked on Sunday after several female students of a private engineering college near Hyderabad accused the kitchen staff of filming them in hostel washrooms. According to a Times of India report quoting PTI, the authorities filed a case against seven individuals following the students protest on January 1 and 2. 

The protest led to an FIR at the medical police station, and according to the report, the charges included voyeurism, abetment, and relevant sections of IPSC besides the POCSO. 

According to TOI, a 20-year-old suspect was detained who is reportedly suspected of spying on students in the washroom. The police commissionerate of Hyderabad confirmed that the accused specifically targeted the female hostel residents whilst using the washrooms.

According to IANS, the CMR Engineering College at Medchal, on the outskirts of Hyderabad, was rocked by protests on Wednesday night, and this continued till 2 a.m.

 Earlier, the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Srinivas Reddy said they seized 12 mobile phones of these workers.

"We have so far found no evidence that they recorded videos. We have not found any obscene videos on their phones. However, we are verifying if any videos were deleted," he said.

The ACP said they took a complaint from the students and registered a case.

A case of negligence has also been registered against the management of the college, as the rooms were given to mess workers next to the bathroom, and they had access to the ventilator of the bathroom.

"We have found no evidence so far but there is room for suspicion," the ACP said.

The police also questioned the management of college about employing make workers in the women’s hostel. However, the management responded and said that as the cooking involved lifting of huge vessels, they had to employ male workers for food supply. They further added that the mess workers are fro outside the state.
