A 39-year-old doctor died by suicide at her apartment in Padma Rao Nagar, Hyderabad, after reportedly becoming distressed over the rejection of her US visa application, Chilkalguda police said on Monday. The deceased, identified as Dr. Kaku Rohini, was staying at the Dharani Surya Sai Apartment while preparing to pursue a PG residency program in the United States.

As per the complaint filed by her mother, Dr Rohini had cleared the required medical PG examinations and secured a residency placement in the US. However, her visa was denied about four months ago, and she had been emotionally affected since then. Her mother, who had recently come to Hyderabad for health reasons and was staying with her elder daughter in Gachibowli, last attempted to reach her on November 22.

That morning, around 10 a.m., she sent food to Dr. Rohini through a delivery service. When repeated calls and knocks went unanswered, the delivery agent left the parcel with the building watchman, who also received no response from the flat and subsequently alerted the family. The door was later forced open, and Dr. Rohini was found unresponsive on her bed, with blood visible near her mouth, the FIR stated.

Police were notified immediately, and a case was registered under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS).

B Anudeep, Inspector, Chilkalguda police station, said, "We got the call from the parents after the suicide and visited the suicide site and sent the body for postmortem and then handed over the body to the family. We are waiting for the medical opinion. After having the full medical report, we can answer in more detail. The whole family is full of doctors. She was found to be unmarried and not settled till now; this can be one of the reasons."

According to the inspector, Dr Rohini, in her suicide note, expressed that she “did not want any treatment” and wished for her family to “live well.” She added that she was “finally getting free from all the stress.” Further details are awaited.
