Hyderabad News: The Hyderabad Police on Friday arrested a 22-year-old man for sexually assaulting an engineering student at a private hostel in Mangalpally. The incident happened on the night of January 14, 2025, when the accused, Akshith, a driver employed by the building owner, allegedly knocked on the victim’s door claiming to have brought a bed sheet.
According to the police, the woman was alone in her room as some other students were in different rooms because of the victim’s practical exams on January 15, 2025. The accused then barged into the victim’s room on the first floor and assaulted the woman.
According to a report by Deccan Chronicle, four girls heard the victim’s scream for help, though none called the police. However, later a call was made to the police. The engineering student lodged a complaint at Ibrahimpatnam Police Station and the investigation began afterwards. She was rushed to the hospital for a medical examination and received counselling from SHE teams, along with her parents.

In another rape incident, two minor girls were gang-raped in a forest in Karnataka and then were blackmailed by the accused with a video of the crime. The incident occurred on January 3, and a case was registered after 10 days when one of the victims filed a case at the Harugeri police station in Belagavi district.
The police stated that the 17-year-old victim had begun communicating with one of the accused, Abhishek, on Instagram. On January 3, the accused invited the victim to join him in his car for a drive, to which she agreed and took her friend along. The second accused, Shabbir, joined them later, while the third accused, Badiger, drove the car to an isolated forest area and allegedly gang-raped the two girls.
The accused recorded the crime and used it to blackmail the victims into joining them for a trip to Goa.
