Indian cricketer Vipraj Nigam, who is currently in Japan alongside the Shreyas Iyer-led side for the Asian Games 2026, has been accused of sexual harassment and physical abuse by a woman in a case dating back to July 2025.
Vipraj is in contention to make his India debut in the historic one-off T20I against Japan on Tuesday. The young spinner is also part of India’s squad for the 2026 Asian Games.
The Daily Jagran understands that a woman, who is from Hyderabad, went to Nigam’s house on Sunday and waited outside for several hours. She reportedly said she wanted to speak to the cricketer personally. Nigam’s father spoke to the woman over the phone and told her that the matter would be discussed after a week. The woman reportedly said she did not want to create a controversy and only wanted an opportunity to speak with Nigam.

Nigam was added to India’s squad as a replacement for injured spinner Varun Chakravarthy and has also been selected for the Asian Games squad.
Cases filed by Nigam and the woman
Both Nigam and the woman have filed complaints against each other in connection with the matter.
On November 8, 2025, Nigam filed a complaint at the Barabanki Kotwali police station. He alleged that the woman had been contacting him from different mobile numbers and threatening to implicate him in a false case.
The woman later filed a complaint against Vipraj Nigam at the Expressway Police Station in Gautam Buddha Nagar, alleging sexual abuse. According to her complaint, the two first came in contact through social media in May 2025.
She alleged that Nigam had promised to marry her and subsequently took her to a hotel in Noida on July 29, 2025, where she accused him of rape and physical assault. A case based on her complaint was registered on December 16, 2025.
Vipraj Nigam's domestic career
Nigam, 22, is a spin bowler who can also contribute with the bat in the lower middle order. He has represented Uttar Pradesh in six first-class matches and has also been part of the Delhi Capitals setup. He has played 19 matches for the franchise and has taken 13 wickets at an average of 36.07.
