In a shocking and tragic incident, a class 10 student collapsed and died of a heart attack just outside her school in Telangana’s Kamareddy district on Thursday. The incident took place when a 16-year-old student, named Sri Nidhi, experienced chest pain while walking her way to the school.
According to the officials, Nidhi’s unrest was noticed by a teacher, who then rushed her to a nearby hospital. Doctors declared Sri Nidhi dead after administering initial treatment, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
Sri Nidhi, hailing from Singarayapalli village in Ramareddy mandal, was residing in Kamareddy to attend a private school. This incident has left the school teachers and students in deep sorrow. Police reported that Sri Nidhi's body has been returned to her hometown for final rites.
Health experts have noted a rise in sudden cardiac arrests among young individuals. A similar incident came to light last year when a 14-year-old boy, identified as Mohit Chaudhary, from Aligarh's Sirauli village suffered a heart attack while preparing for his annual day competition. As per the officials, the class 6 student died while practising for a running race.
In a similar incident in January 2024, a 15-year-old student, Srikanth, from Buduma Tanda in Hanwada Mandal, suffered a fatal heart attack at Dhanwada Tribal Gurukul School in Narayanapet district.
“If any healthy person dies within an hour, it is called sudden cardiac arrest. This has increased by 22 per cent in the last 20 years. If a child complains of shortness of breath and chest pain, he should be examined immediately,” NDTV quoted Professor M Rabbani.
