Weather Forecast: Amid the severe cold in North India, a new Western Disturbance has become active, leading to heavy snowfall in the hilly states and rain in the plains, including Delhi-NCR. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this disturbance will affect northwest India, causing scattered to widespread rain/snowfall over the western Himalayan region (Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand) from January 31 to February 2. Thunderstorms, accompanied by strong winds of 30-40 km/h and heavy snowfall/rain at isolated places, are likely, especially on February 1.

As per IMD, a fresh western disturbance will begin affecting northwest India on the night of January 30. Its impact is expected to bring heavy snowfall and rain to Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on February 1 and 2. Orange and yellow alerts have been issued for districts like Chamba, Kullu, and Lahaul-Spiti.

Orange Alert In Himachal Pradesh

In Himachal Pradesh, an orange alert has been issued for Chamba, Kullu, Kinnaur, and Lahaul-Spiti districts, while a yellow alert has been issued for other high-altitude areas. Heavy snowfall in the high-altitude areas of these districts could lead to road closures, disruption of power and water supply, and increased difficulties for tourists. In Uttarakhand, heavy snowfall is also expected in high-altitude Himalayan regions such as Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Pithoragarh, and Rudraprayag, which could impact the Chardham Yatra routes.

Rain In Delhi-NCR

The weather in Delhi and surrounding areas like Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad will change starting the evening of January 31. On February 1, Delhi is expected to experience light rain accompanied by thunderstorms and winds of 30-40 km/h, which will cause a significant drop in temperatures.

Cold Wave UP, Haryana

Fog will continue to prevail in the plains of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. The IMD has issued a warning of rain and hailstorms in western Uttar Pradesh and Haryana on February 1.
