Starting January 2026, India Post will introduce guaranteed 24-hour and 48-hour Speed Post services, Union Minister for Communications and Development of North-East Region (DoNER), Jyotiraditya M. Scindia announced on Friday.
Speaking at a press conference in New Delhi, outlining the past year’s accomplishments of the ministries and departments he oversees, Scindia said, “There will be a 24-hour Speed Post service ensuring mail delivery within 24 hours, and a 48-hour Speed Post for delivery within 48 hours… By doing this, we are redefining the meaning of speed post.”
Currently, parcel deliveries through India Post usually take three to five days. With the introduction of guaranteed 24-hour and 48-hour delivery services, the wait time will be significantly reduced, Hindustan Times reported.
Scindia said that next year, India Post is preparing to roll out eight new products across its mail, parcel, and international services. This will include next-day parcel delivery, enhanced last-mile parcel delivery, comprehensive end-to-end parcel solutions, and upgraded tracked international services.
The new guaranteed delivery service aims to boost customer trust in India Post’s reliability and promote greater use for both personal and business purposes. Scindia emphasised that these initiatives are part of a broader government plan to transform India Post from a cost centre into a profit centre by 2029.
Earlier, on October 1, India Post’s Speed Post service underwent a major digital transformation, introducing modern features such as OTP-based secure delivery, online booking and payment for parcels, real-time tracking, and SMS alerts for parcel status.
With these changes, customers can expect improved service that is aimed at enhancing security, convenience and overall service quality.
