A district consumer panel has ordered Indian Railways to reimburse a customer with Rs 30,000 after he experienced pain during his travel from Tirupati to Duvvada in Vizag. The South Central Railway (SCR) was ordered to pay Rs 25,000 to the 55-year-old man for bodily and emotional stress caused by a lack of basic amenities, plus an extra Rs 5,000 for legal fees.

V Murthy had reserved four 3AC train seats for himself and his family from Tirupati to Duvvada on the Tirumala Express. They were first allotted berths in the B-7 coach; however, Murthy subsequently received a message informing him that their accommodations had been altered from 3A to 3E, according to the Times of India.

Murthy and his family boarded the train at the Tirupati railway station on June 5, 2023. There was no water available when they went to the toilets during their trip. In addition, the entire coach was filthy and the air conditioner wasn't functioning correctly. Murthy brought up these concerns with the relevant Duvvada office, but nothing was done about it.

According to the railways, Murthy's case was based on false accusations meant to raise funds at the cost of the public exchequer. They contended that he and his family used the railways' services to safely finish their travel, the TOI report said.
