An emergency evacuation was carried out at Chandigarh Airport on Tuesday after a passenger’s power bank caught fire. According to officials, the incident occurred on an IndiGo flight travelling from Hyderabad to Chandigarh.

The incident took place at Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport in Mohali, where a passenger’s power bank reportedly exploded shortly after IndiGo flight number 6E108 landed, triggering panic on board. The flight had arrived in Chandigarh from Hyderabad.

According to Jagran.com, five passengers were injured, and an emergency evacuation was conducted using the aircraft’s exits.

Soon after the explosion, the cabin filled with smoke, leading to chaos among passengers. Opening the emergency exit proved difficult initially. A fire broke out following the blast, but the cabin crew managed to bring it under control and extinguish it using onboard firefighting equipment after considerable effort.

Several passengers took to the social media platform X to share videos of the incident, showing flyers evacuating onto the tarmac.

Passengers also said the cabin quickly filled with smoke following the fire. Around five people are suspected to have been injured and were taken to hospital.
