Indore Building Collapse: A three-storey building collapsed during heavy rains in Indore’s Ranipura area on Monday night, leaving several people trapped under the debris. Officials confirmed that seven persons were rescued, while search operations are continuing for others feared trapped.
According to preliminary information, the building was around 8–10 years old. A part of the structure also fell onto a neighbouring building, worsening the damage. Officials estimate that 10–12 people may have been inside when the collapse occurred.
Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava, who visited the spot, said, “Seven people have been rescued. Efforts are underway to bring out the others.”
Senior police officers and district administration personnel are supervising the rescue operations. Teams are working with heavy machinery to clear debris and locate those missing.
Eyewitnesses reported that electricity supply in the Ranipura locality was disconnected as a safety measure. Additional police personnel have also been deployed to control crowds gathering around the site.
Relief and rescue work continued late into the night, with officials emphasising that every effort was being made to trace those still trapped under the collapsed building.
In separate news, on Monday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast light to moderate rain across the Indore-Ujjain division for the coming week. Officials said the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon has not progressed, keeping rainfall active in the region. According to Dr Divya Surendran of IMD Bhopal, scattered showers are likely in many districts, with isolated rain expected in southwest Madhya Pradesh over the next two days. While heavy rainfall is unlikely between September 23 and 25, light showers with thunderstorms will persist. From September 26, a fresh spell may begin due to a developing low-pressure system. Residents have been advised to remain cautious.
