In a tragic incident, at least two people died while several others were injured after a highly inebriated driver of a speeding truck hit several people in Madhya Pradesh's Indore. The incident took place in the Malharganj police station area of the city.

According to the initial information, the truck was coming from the airport towards Bada Ganpati when it hit several vehicles and people. The eyewitnesses said that a bike was stuck under the truck because of which it caught fire. Subsequently, the truck also caught fire.

The police reached the spot after getting the information about the accident. The injured were admitted to the hospital, and the fire was extinguished. According to the information, the truck driver lost control, after which it hit several vehicles, including an e-rickshaw.

The chaos erupted soon after the accident, while the people present nearby started screaming due to the horrific nature of the accident.

DCP Zone-1 Krishna Lalchandani said, "The driver was highly inebriated and lost control of the vehicle, which led to this accident. A bike also came under its grip and was dragged along. So far, two people have died. Nine people are injured, including three who are seriously injured. Prima facie, it seems that the front part of the truck caught fire after the bike came under it. The truck driver is in police custody and has been sent for medical examination..."

The injured were rushed to Geetanjali Hospital, where local residents also came forward to help. Officials are investigating the cause of the accident and working to ascertain the exact number of casualties.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed grief over the loss of lives in the tragic accident. In a post on X, he wrote, "The truck accident that occurred in Indore today is tragic. After obtaining detailed information about this incident, I have directed the Additional Chief Secretary (Home) to go to Indore for inspection."

The CM also directed to probe the reason as to how the truck entered the city befoe 11 PM. He said, "I have also directed that a preliminary factual investigation be conducted into the reasons for the entry of heavy vehicles into the city before 11 PM at night. I express my condolences to the deceased and pray to God for the swift recovery of the injured."
