JE News Desk: Ravi Sinha, an Indian Police Service Officer from Chhattisgarh cadre has been appointed as the new chief of India's external intelligence agency RAW, a Personnel Ministry order said on Monday. The Cabinet has approved Sinha's appointment as Secretary for a tenure of two years.

“The Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Rajiv Sinha, IPS, special secretary, Cabinet Secretariat, as Secretary, Research and Analysis Wing vice Samant Goel on completion of his tenure on June 30, 2023, for a tenure of two years from the date of assumption of the charge of the post, or until further orders, whichever is earlier,” the order stated.

Sinha, a 1988 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Chhattisgarh cadre, is currently serving as Special Secretary, Cabinet Secretariat. He will replace Samant Kumar Goel, who will complete his tenure on June 30, 2023. Ravi takes over at a time when Sikh extremism is being propagated in some countries.

Sinha is an alumnus of St Stephens' College, Delhi. He is known for keeping a low profile and is a widely respected figure across the intelligence community for his professional competence. Reportedly, he has worked in a range of fields and brings to his new role a significant bank of experience and knowledge.

According to officials, this experience enables him to integrate technological and human intelligence dimensions to work together to address the challenges of our times.

He is also known to have a sound grip on neighbourhood developments, besides Jammu and Kashmir, the Northeast, and areas affected by Left Wing Extremism (LWE) where he has served at different times. Sinha has been with the prestigious intelligence agency for over two decades.
