In an incident of hit-and-run, a high-speed Audi car mowed down 16 people, leaving one dead and the other 16 injured in Rajasthan's Jaipur.

The incident took place on Friday night near Kharabas Circle in Jaipur's Patrakar Colony area when the Audi car rammed into pedestrians and roadside stalls.

Soon after the incident, a large crowd gathered at the accident site. The injured were rushed to the hospital. The police have said that all of the occupants were allegedly intoxicated. The police detained one of the occupants while the other three managed to flee the accident site. The police have seized the vehicle.

Eight of the injured were taken to Jaipuria Hospital for primary treatment, while others were taken to private hospitals or went home with family members. The video of the incident has surfaced on social media, showing a while Audi crashing into stalls.

SHO Madan Kadwasra said that the car hit over 10 stalls, ran over more than 16 people and finally stopped after crashing into a tree about 100 metres away.

The deceased has been identified as Ramesh Bairwa, a resident of Bhilwara. He was rushed to the hospital in injured condition but succumbed to his injuries. Four critically injured patients were shifted to SMS Hospital, police said.

Speaking about the accident, SHO Gurbhupinder Singh, said, "At around 9:30 pm, we received information about the accident. Many people were injured, and a large crowd had gathered at the spot. Following a humanitarian approach, the injured were first put into private vehicles, police Chetak vans, and ambulances and immediately sent to the hospital."

There were four people in the car at the time of accident which took place at around 9:30 PM.

Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Prem Chand Bairwa visited the accident site and said, "As per the information I have received so far, one casualty has been reported. Three people have been admitted to one hospital and five to another. I am heading to both hospitals to assess how many people are injured, what exactly happened, and how serious their condition is. I will be able to share details about their condition after visiting the hospitals."
