The convoy attack in Kathua took place within hours of counter-terror operations by security forces in Kulgam and Chinnigam areas. While six Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists were killed in separate operations, Indian army personnel also laid their lives in the line of duty. Following the Kathua attack, the Defence Ministry had vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Earlier, terrorists attacked a bus full of Mata Vaishno Devi devotees in Jammu's Reasi area on June 9. Nine pilgrims lost their lives while more than 30 suffered injuries in the cowardly attack.
