Jammu-Kashmir Rains: Incessant rainfall has triggered landslides, flooding and severe waterlogging across Jammu and Kashmir, prompting the closure of all government and private schools across the Jammu division. Authorities have announced the closure of schools till September 5 to ensure the safety of students and staff.
In addition to this, authorities have urged schools to conduct online classes wherever possible to maintain continuity of education.
In an order dated 05.09.2025, Directorate of School Education, Jammu stated, “In continuation of this office order DSEJ/GEN/46208-46 dated 02-09-2025 & in reference to the weather alert issued by the IMD and also keeping in view the incessant rains, landslides, flash floods, and severe waterlogging in low-lying areas, all government and private schools across Jammu Division shall remain closed till 05-09-2025 to ensure the safety of students and staff. It is further ordered that online classes shall be conducted wherever possible to maintain continuity of education.”

This comes after torrential rain wreaked havoc across Jammu and Kashmir, triggering landslides, disrupting road connectivity, damaging local infrastructure and claiming the lives of several people.
Apart from Jammu and Kashmir, all schools will remain closed in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Chandigarh till September 7. Due to bad weather, schools remained closed on Wednesday in Ghaziabad, Noida and Greater Noida, Bulandshahr, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Chandigarh.
The closure affects lakhs of students across Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and other states. Authorities have urged parents and students to avoid unnecessary outings and stay indoors for safety. These preventive measures are in place to prioritise students’ safety as inclement weather conditions continue to wreak havoc and damage infrastructure, roads and public services across the country.
