Jharkhand Coal Mine Collapse: In a tragic incident, a portion of a coal mine collapsed in Jharkhand's Ramgarh district, claiming the life of at least one individual while several others were trapped, the police said on Saturday.

The administration rushed a team to the spot, which started the rescue and relief operation. Speaking about the incident, Kuju Police Outpost in-charge Ashutosh Kumar Singh said, "One body has been recovered so far and rescue operation is underway, as more people are suspected to be trapped."

He added that over a dozens of villagers were involved in illegal mining of coal at the site. Meanwhile, Ramgarh Deputy Commissioner (DC) Faiz Aq Ahmed Mumtaz said, "We received information about the incident in the morning. An administrative team has been sent to the spot to investigate the matter."

According to the information, the mine was situated in Sugiya village under Kuju police station limits near Mahua Tungari. The accident site is around 13 kilometres from Ramgarh. 

The opposition AJSU has lashed out at the government for ongoing illegal mining activities in the state. AJSU MP from Giridih Chandra Prakash Choudhary took to X and said, "This heartbreaking incident has happened due to the negligence of the corrupt government and administration, which is merely a mute spectator in this illegal business going on in broad daylight and the mineral wealth is being distributed."

"This is not an ordinary accident, but a well-planned murder! This murder is the result of that corrupt and inefficient system, which remains silent even after seeing this illegal business of mining going on day and night. After all, till when will the hardworking labourers of Jharkhand keep losing their lives?," the Giridih MP added.
