Bibhav Kumar Delhi Police on Saturday arrested Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's aide and personal assistant, Bibhav Kumar, from the CM residence itself. He has been arrested for allegedly assaulting AAP Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal. Police have registered a case against Kumar under strict sections of the IPC.

Bibhav Kumar's father, Maheshwar Rai, said, "He used to do journalism there (in Delhi). Later, he worked in Arvind Kejriwal's organization. He has been with Kejriwal since he (Arvind Kejriwal) formed the government."

Who Is Bibhav Kumar?

Bibhav Kumar is a close associate and manager of Arvind Kejriwal, both personally and politically. He is a resident of the Sasaram district of Bihar. He has completed his studies in journalism. However, he was never associated with the mainstream media.

In his early days, Bibhav Kumar worked in 'Kabir', an NGO run by former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. In 2015, he was appointed as private secretary to Kejriwal, after which he was appointed again in 2020 when AAP formed the government in Delhi for the second time.

He is facing an investigation by the ED in a money laundering case related to the Delhi Liquor Policy as well as alleged irregularities in the Delhi Jal Board.

In April of this year, the Vigilance Directorate terminated Kumar's services as Kejriwal's PA after investigating the excise policy matter. Kumar filed an OA before the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), challenging the termination order. CAT refused, saying that granting such relief would be premature.

According to the dismissal order against Bibhav Kumar, the allegations were of a serious nature.

Earlier, AAP admitted that Bibhav Kumar had 'misbehaved' with the former DCW chief and had also attacked her. Now the party claims that Maliwal wanted to target Kejriwal at the behest of the BJP. Delhi Minister Atishi claimed on Saturday that the BJP used the old ACB case to make Maliwal a pawn.

"The way Enforcement Directorate, Central Bureau of Investigation, anti-corruption bureau, Income tax dept, Economic Offences Wing were used to blackmail opposition leaders and make them join BJP, similarly in Swati Maliwal case also same formula was used. There is a case against Swati Maliwal by the Anti-Corruption Bureau, FIR has been made and the probe is underway using this, Swati Maliwal was made to hatch this conspiracy and was used as a pawn," Atishi told ANI.

She further said to conduct an unbiased probe, alleging that Swati Maliwal had been in touch with BJP leaders.

"There should be an unbiased probe on who was in contact with whom, Swati Maliwali met all BJP members and when what conversation they had on call and on WhatsApp," Atishi added.

Delhi Minister and AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj alleged that senior leaders of the BJP are in contact with Maliwal, adding that her version of the story is incorrect.
