Jyoti Malhotra, the social media influencer who got arrested on the charges of spying for Pakistan, has shared multiple posts on her accounts praising Pakistan and its culture. The police officials stated that Malhotra had shared some of the crucial details with Pakistani officials and taken their help in extending the visa period during her Pakistan visits. The officials further stated that the social media influencer was even in an intimate relationship with a Pakistani official, adding that she even went to Indonesia's Bali with him.
The officials stated that Malhotra has been booked under Sections 3 and 5 of the Official Secrets Act and Section 153 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The officials further stated that her devices and transactions are being probed to figure out the extent of espionage. They added that while she belonged to Haryana's Hisar, Malhotra operated from New Delhi and frequently contacted the Pakistani officials. DSP Kamaljit Singh stated that Malhotra was even in contact with one of the expelled Pakistani intelligence handlers and shared crucial information.
“She has confessed to her role. Her travel history includes four visits to Pakistan, and she maintained encrypted communication with handlers on WhatsApp, Telegram and Snapchat,” DSP Singh was quoted as saying by the Times of India. “She had saved one operative’s number as ‘Jatt Randhawa’ and had also travelled to Bali with him,” he added.
The social media influencer also praised Pakistan and its people in several of her YouTube videos and Instagram posts. Jyoti Malhotra has a YouTube channel with more than 3.2 lakh subscribers and also has more than 13 lakh Instagram followers. Malhotra has several videos on her Instagram page, praising Pakistani cuisine, people, and cities. The action was taken after tensions between India and Pakistan escalated after the Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people were killed.
