Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday ordered all government departments to phase out the use of plastic bottle. CM Siddaramaiah has advised the government to replace plastic bottles with eco-friendly materials in government offices and at government events.

The Chief Minister issued a notice on October 28, announcing the move, stating that the state is committed to environmental responsibility and promoting indigenous products.

What did CM Siddaramaiah say?

This decision by CM Siddaramaiah will not only curb plastic waste but will also promote local, eco-friendly products.

Issuing a press statement, CM Siddaramaiah said, "Instructions have already been issued to use eco-friendly material instead of plastic water bottles for drinking water in all government offices and official meetings in Karnataka. Necessary steps should be taken to strictly implement this measure."

Use of Nandini products mandatory

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has also directed all government departments to use Nandini Dairy products.

Nandini Dairy is part of the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF), a government-owned company. The CM said that Nandini products will also be used in government meetings, events, and secretariats.

He also accused the central government of showing a "stepmotherly attitude" towards the state, alleging that it was doing injustice to Karnataka while giving grants to Hindi-speaking states.

In his speech on the occasion of the 70th Karnataka Rajyotsava (Karnataka State Day), CM Siddaramaiah also alleged that the Centre is imposing Hindi and ignoring the country's linguistic diversity.
