Karnataka News: A parish priest from Mangaluru had a narrow escape on January 1 after his car met with an accident in Dakshina Kannada district. Father Andrew Leo D’Souza, parish priest of St Lawrence Shrine and Church in Bondel, survived without serious injuries even though his vehicle overturned.

The accident took place near Marcada when Father D’Souza was returning to Mangaluru from his ancestral village Neerude after attending a New Year family gathering. He was driving his Maruti car when one of its tyres burst suddenly, causing the vehicle to go out of control.

Police said the car veered off the road, crashed into the courtyard of a nearby house, and flipped over. The impact was strong, but the priest managed to escape with only minor injuries.

A CCTV camera at the house captured the entire incident. The footage shows the car swerving off the road at high speed before overturning inside the compound. The video has gone viral on social media, drawing shock and concern from viewers.

Locals who heard the crash rushed to the spot and helped bring the car back upright. They pulled Father D’Souza out and took him to a nearby hospital for medical check-up.

According to hospital sources, the priest suffered only a few bruises and was discharged after observation.

Many parishioners and local residents called his survival a miracle, especially since it happened on the first day of the new year. They expressed their gratitude and offered prayers, calling it a sign of divine protection.
