The mother, 30-year-old Roopa Karabannanavar from Kakol village near Ranebennur, arrived at the hospital in active labour but was reportedly denied admission as the obstetrics and gynaecology ward was full, according to her relatives. They claimed that due to overcrowding, no beds were available, and she was asked to wait on the floor outside the ward.
Relatives said that while in severe labour pain, Roopa tried to walk toward the restroom when she unexpectedly delivered the baby in the corridor. The newborn fell and sustained fatal injuries, dying immediately. Family members alleged that hospital staff and doctors did not respond promptly despite repeated requests for urgent help.
