Weather News: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red alert for several districts in Karnataka for widespread rainfall across Karnataka over the next seven days, with "heavy to very heavy rain" expected in several districts and "extremely heavy rainfall" likely at isolated locations.

The rainfall is due to the monsoon trough passing through the region. 

According to daily weather report, "heavy to very heavy rain" accompanied by winds of 30-40 kmph is likely in the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, and Udupi on Thursday, with "extremely heavy rainfall" at isolated places, news agency PTI reported.

Red Alert In Coastal, South Interior Karnataka

The weather Department has placed all three districts of coastal Karnataka and three South Interior districts on Red alert for Sustained wind with wind speed reaching (30-40) Kmph likely over Coastal Karnataka on Thursday. Districts placed red alert are Udupi, Dakshina Karnataka, Uttara Karnataka, Chikkamagalru, Hassan, and Shivamogga. 

On the other hand, Belagavi in north interior region of Karnataka has been placed under orange alert for heavy rainfall. 

Similar conditions are expected to persist along the coast for the next two days, gradually decreasing in intensity thereafter, though light to moderate rain is likely to continue, the IMD statement added.

The intensity of rain is expected to decrease across much of the state from July 7 onwards, though "light to moderate rain" with gusty winds may continue in several districts until at least July 9.

The weather department has advised resident to exercise precautionary measures and avoid visiting flood and landslide-prone areas.
