A 65-year-old woman died in a wild elephant attack in Kerala’s Idukki on Monday. The incident took place in the Kanjiraveli area of Adimali Panchayat of the district when the elderly woman ventured into her farmland near the forest area for some work on Monday morning.

Police said the woman, identified as Indira, was trampled by the tusker when she fell while trying to run away. She was rushed to the hospital in Kothamangalam by the neighbours after hearing her screams but she succumbed to her injuries, police added.

The incident is yet another reminder of the persistent problem of human-animal clashes in Kerala, which have also sparked political controversies. The state has seen a surge of protests against human-animal conflict recently as several people have lost their lives due to attacks by wild animals.
