Bidis-Bihar Row: Congress once again landed in trouble ahead of the Bihar Assembly election after its Kerala unit tweeted a controversial post against the state. The Kerala Congress, in an attempt to criticise the Centre's Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms, likened Bihar to Bidis (local cigarettes), triggering a political storm against the grand old party in the poll-bound state.

The Kerala Congress posted on X, "Bidis and Bihar start with B" and "cannot be considered a sin anymore." The tweet referred to the GST cut on the bidis. However, soon after the controversy snowballed, it deleted the post, but not before drawing severe reaction from the NDA leaders of Bihar. The row comes amid outrage over abuse hurled at PM Modi and his late mother at an event of Vote Adhikar Yatra led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Bihar's Darbhanga.

Insult To The Entire Bihar: Samrat Choudhary

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Samrat Choudhary, without any delay, cashed the opportunity to attack the Congress, calling the tweet an "insult to the entire Bihar".

Congress Takes Pleasure In Insulting Biharis: Union Minister

Union Minister Nityanand Rai also launched a scathing attack on Congress, stating that the party takes "pleasure" in insulting Bihar and its people. He said that people of Bihar will teach a lesson to everyone who has the intention to hurt Bihar and its "self-respect".

B For Buddhi, Which You Lack: Sanjay Kumar Jha

Another NDA leader and a member of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal United (JDU), Sanjay Kumar Jha, termed it another extremely shameful act by Congress.

"Another extremely shameful act by the Congress! Let me tell you that B doesn't just mean beedi, it also means budhdhi (intellect), which you lack! B also means budget, in which you get irritated when Bihar receives special assistance," he tweeted.

"By making a mockery of Bihar, the Congress has not only insulted the people of Bihar once again, but has also mocked the glorious history of the country and democracy. It was on the sacred land of this very Bihar that Adishakti Mother Janaki appeared. It was here that Lord Buddha attained enlightenment. Bihar, the land of many great freedom fighters of the independence struggle, gave the country its first draft of the Constitution and its first president. It was this very Bihar that made Gandhiji the Father of the Nation. And yes, it was from the soil of this Bihar that the bugle of 'Sampurna Kranti' was sounded, which uprooted the Congress's dictatorial rule," his post read.

"Believe me, the great people of Bihar will give a befitting reply to the repeated insults by the Congress in the upcoming assembly elections—not with the smoke of a beedi, but with the blow of votes," he added.
