A Kolkata-bound IndiGo flight with 165 passengers on board was forced to return to Nagpur shortly after takeoff on Tuesday morning due to a suspected bird strike. The flight, operating as 6E812, had to make an emergency landing after the aircraft sustained damage in mid-air, prompting the crew to turn around for safety reasons.
According to Abid Ruhi, the Senior Airport Director at Nagpur Airport, an investigation is underway to confirm the cause. “There has been a suspected bird strike on IndiGo’s 6E812 Nagpur-Kolkata flight. We are trying to analyse what has happened,” he told news agency ANI.

Flight tracking data from Flightradar24 confirmed that the aircraft, an Airbus A320-251N took off from Nagpur and then diverted back not long after departure. Initial reports indicate that the bird hit caused damage to the aircraft’s front section, including the nose cone.
Despite the mid-air scare, all passengers onboard were safe, and no injuries were reported.

News18 reported that the impact occurred shortly after takeoff, and the flight crew made the call to return as a precautionary measure. The emergency landing was carried out smoothly, and airport officials responded quickly to assess the situation.
