Kolkata Metro Expanison: Kolkata is going to receive major transport connectivity this week, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurating three metro projects on August 22. Metro Railway Kolkata announced on Sunday that the city's airport will be connected to the metro network, with the 6.77 km length of the Yellow Line between Noapara and Jai Hind Bimanbandar due to begin services this week.
This 6.77 km stretch of Kolkata Metro has four stations: Noapara, Dum Dum Cantonment, Jessore Road and Jai Hind Bimanbandar. PM Modi will inaugurate the Sealdah-Esplanade section of the Green Line, the Hemanta Mukhopadhyay (Ruby Crossing)-Beleghata section of the Orange Line, and the Noapara-Jai Hind Bimanbandar (airport) section of the Yellow Line.
The service will directly reduce the hardship of the residents of this area to reach Kolkata Airport, as after commissioning of this section, a fast and comfortable Metro journey can be enjoyed to Kolkata Airport, a Metro spokesperson said Sunday.
As per PTI reports, there will be an adequate number of ticket counters, sitting benches, and elevators for the convenience of the passengers, the official added.
Kolkata Metro Green Line: Sealdah-Esplanade
The Sealdah-Esplanade stretch of the Green Line spans 2.63 km as part of the overall 13 km Kolkata Metro Green Line, which connects Sector V to Sealdah and Howrah Maidan to Esplanade through 12 stations. The operational route began with the Sector V to Salt Lake Stadium stretch of 5.3 km, which opened on 13 February 2020.

Kolkata Metro Orange Line: Hemanta Mukhopadhyay (Ruby Crossing)-Beleghata
The newly extended section of the Orange Line in Kolkata spans approximately 4.39 kilometres, running from Hemanta Mukhopadhyay station in the south to Beleghata in the north. Currently, commercial operations are active between New Garia and Ruby Crossing, covering five stations: Kavi Subhash, Satyajit Ray, Jyotirindra Nandi, Kavi Sukanta, and Hemanta Mukhopadhyay. With the extension reaching Hemanta Mukhopadhyay, commuters can now conveniently interchange between the Blue Line (Dakshineswar–New Garia) and the Orange Line at Kavi Subhash station.
Kolkata Metro Yellow Line: Noapara-Jai Hind (Airport)
The under-construction Line 4 (Yellow Line) of the Kolkata Metro spans 16.876 km between Noapara and Barasat, with a total of 10 stations planned along the route. A 7.03 km stretch between Jai Hind Bimanbandar (Airport) and Noapara is nearing completion, covering four stations: Noapara, Dum Dum Cantt, Jessore Road, and Biman Bandar.
