Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder Case: Amid growing outrage over the rape and murder of a postgraduate medical student in Kolkata’s state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, the family members of the deceased accused the Kolkata Police of attempting to suppress the case by hastily cremating the body.
“We wanted to keep the body of our daughter but extraordinary pressure was mounted on us and the body was cremated,” the victim’s father said as he joined the protest with doctors on Wednesday, demanding justice for his daughter.
The victim’s father also alleged that a senior police officer approached him privately and offered money when his daughter's body was brought home after the autopsy and before her cremation.
In response to the father’s allegations, Trinamool Congress (TMC) spokesperson Shashi Panja said, "We respect what the family is saying, they have lost their daughter.” She also urged the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), who took over the probe into the case last month to conclude the investigation quickly.
Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder: Video Fight Between BJP And TMC
Meanwhile, a video fight erupted between the BJP and TMC amid allegations of a police cover-up by the family of a woman doctor. Refuting the claims, the TMC accused the BJP of using the tragedy for seeking political gain instead of seeking justice for the victim.
During the press conference, the party led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee shared a video which shows the victim’s father saying that all rumours of a bribe being offered to them are unfounded. In the video, the victim’s father can be heard saying bribery allegations against Kolkata Police are a ‘blatant lie.’
“We have not said anything about attempts being made to bribe us by police officials. This is a blatant lie. I urge everyone not to spread such rumours and instead ensure that our daughter gets justice,” the victim’s father was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
The video came after allegations of bribery and negligence levied by the family members of the deceased doctor against Kolkata Police.
However, the BJP was quick to target TMC over the video. Taking to X, BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya posted a video of the victim’s parents who spoke to a news channel.
“TMC hacks are circulating a video of the deceased RG Kar doctor’s family and claiming that WB Police didn’t offer any money to them. Now listen to the parent’s version. They claim that Mamata Banerjee’s police threatened to derail the investigation if they didn’t come on camera and deny the allegations of being offered money, to withdraw the case. Distraught parents complied,” Malviya wrote on X.

“Later, when the parents realised that the Kolkata Police was doing everything to cover up the crime and were conducting a sham investigation, they decided to speak the truth. The parents, who had just lost a 31-year-old daughter, were being hounded by Vineet Goyal and his team of officers on the instructions of Mamata Banerjee,” he further added.
Family’s Clarification
Reacting to the TMC video, the family claimed that the video was forcibly recorded by the police just after the cremation. “The video was shot by the police just days after the incident took place and we were forced to participate. The truth is that the police tried to hush up the case and attempted to protect (former) RG Kar principal Sandip Ghosh," a family member told a Bengali news channel, as quoted by Hindustan Times.
