Kolkata Red Road Carnival 2025: Ahead of the ‘immersion carnival’ along Red Road on October 5, the Kolkata traffic police have announced a traffic advisory to ensure smooth vehicular movement and the conclusion of the event.
As the city gears up for huge celebrations, the Commissioner of Police, Manoj Kumar Verma, has released a comprehensive traffic advisory for October 5 to avoid obstruction and inconvenience.
Kolkata Traffic Advisory On Oct 5: THESE Roads Will Be Closed
Several roads will be closed from 2 pm till the end of the event on October 5. These roads include-
Red Road
Lovers Lane
Queensway
Plassey Gate Road
Esplanade Ramp
Khidderpore Road: Closed from Hastings crossing to Lovers Lane from 14:00 hrs (except for immersion vehicles and those using Vidyasagar Setu).
Hospital Road: Northbound traffic from AJC Bose Road crossing will be closed from 14:00 hrs (except for immersion-related vehicles).
Red Road will be closed from midnight to 9 am on October 5 for maintenance work, and traffic will be regulated from 9 am to 2 pm, as the requirment.
Kolkata Red Road Carnival 2025: Parking Facility On Oct 5
Parking will be prohibited on key roads in central Kolkata during the event. Affected roads include:
Government Place West
Chowringhee Road
J L Nehru Road
Cathedral Road, and others.
Restrictions will be in place from 12:00 hrs until the event ends or as directed by the traffic police.
Red Road Carnival 2025: Restrictions On Good, Private Vehicles On Key Roads
From October 6 to 12, road restrictions will be imposed from the afternoon until early morning hours, affecting around 172 thoroughfares across North, Central, South, and Southeast Kolkata.
Goods vehicles over 1600 kg will be banned from operating in the city on Mahalaya and during Durga Puja, except for essential supplies like LPG cylinders, medicines, and vegetables. Smaller goods vehicles under 1600 kg will have limited movement after 4 pm.
Some key roads that will be closed or restricted include Auckland Road, Kingsway, and Strand Road. Buses will be rerouted, and tram services will be suspended on certain routes. Parking will be strictly prohibited on several major roads and near pandals.
The police will implement flexible traffic rules, adjusting restrictions based on crowd and traffic conditions. They urge citizens to follow updates on their official website and social media to plan routes in advance and minimise inconvenience.
