A 20-year-old medical student of Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital was found hanging in her room at the ESI quarters, reports Times of India. According to the report, the student lived with her mother, a doctor at the local ESI hospital.
According to NDTV, the mother of the student, who is a doctor, panicked after calls to her daughter went unanswered. Ivy Prasad was found dead in her room. A case of unnatural death has been filed and a probe has been launched into the matter. The report of the post-mortem is awaited. The father of the dead student works in a bank and lives in Mumbai, according to several media reports.
“Despite repeated calls, there was no response from her. Eventually, her mother broke open the door and found her hanging. She was rushed to the hospital, where she was declared dead,” The Times of India quoted a senior police officer of the Barrackpore Commissionerate as saying.
Earlier in August last year, the body of a post-graduate trainee doctor was found in the RG Kar Hospital's seminar room. The recent incident comes days after Sanjay Roy, the convict in the rape and murder of a trainee doctor, was sentenced to a life term till death by a Sealdah court in Kolkata. The civil and criminal court of Sealdah found Roy guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
