Kolkata News: A 14-year-old girl was found murdered early Friday morning, just 6 km from her home in Gouranganagar, New Town. The girl had left her house late on Thursday night following an argument with her mother and sister.
Her body was discovered in a bush next to a canal, close to a premium housing complex. Authorities reported that the body was semi-naked and bore multiple bruises and scratch marks. Police have initiated a case of rape and murder and have sent the body for a postmortem examination.
According to a Times Of India report, CCTV footage captured the girl walking approximately 2 km from her home in Jagatpur. The footage shows her speaking to a biker who slowed down to talk to her. After that, she vanished from the cameras' view, leading police to suspect that the biker may have picked her up.
During the morning hours, around 6:30 AM, walkers discovered her body. She was found wearing a hoodie but without any bottom wear. Police sources indicate that she may have been strangled and could have been drugged prior to her death.

The girl's mother confirmed the presence of bruises and scratch marks on her daughter’s body. "It seems like some evil person harmed her before brutally killing her," she said outside the morgue at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, where the postmortem was conducted. "She left home after a minor fight. I seek justice for my daughter and want those responsible to face severe punishment."
The girl's father is currently in Mumbai for work. Her mother explained that the argument with her eight-year-old sister escalated, prompting the girl to leave home around 10 PM on Thursday. She did not take her cellphone with her.
When the girl did not return after an hour, her mother organised a search party with neighbours. A missing person report was filed with New Town police at 5:30 AM Friday. Shortly after, police received a call about a body found near the canal, which turned out to be the girl's.
Bidhannagar Police Commissioner Shri Mukesh confirmed that a multi-faceted investigation is underway and they hope to apprehend the culprits soon. Officers are attempting to trace the biker seen conversing with the girl in the CCTV footage.
