Kolkata Traffic Advisory: Diversions Near Park Street For New Year's Eve On December 31; Check Alternative Routes

New Year Traffic Advisory: As Kolkata gears up to welcome the New Year, Park Street is once again expected to draw large crowds. In anticipation of heavy footfall, the Kolkata Traffic Police have announced a traffic and crowd management plan for New Year’s Eve to ensure public safety while maintaining smooth vehicular movement across the city.

Kolkata Traffic Advisory: Check Restrictions And Diversions

Keeping public convenience in mind, Kolkata Traffic Police have announced traffic restrictions, diversions and designated parking arrangements in the Park Street area, as it is expected to see a surge in visitors during the New Year, The Times of India reported.

- Park Street and other major arterial roads, such as Belvedere Road and Alipore Road, will stay open through the day and evening, with closures to be imposed only if necessary after midnight.

- According to the revised traffic plan, vehicular movement towards Park Street from the JL Nehru Road-Lindsay Street crossing will be regulated intermittently and halted only if congestion builds up near the Park Street flyover approach.

- In such cases, vehicles will be diverted towards the Park Street Flyover and allowed to enter the Park Street area via Ho Chi Minh Sarani.

- Vehicles from CR Avenue and SN Banerjee Road heading south beyond Exide may be diverted via RR Avenue and Red Road towards SSKM Hospital, the report added.

- In anticipation of heavy vehicular traffic from Outram Road, Kyd Street, Free School Street, Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Road, and the Ho Chi Minh Sarani-Camac Street-Short Street corridor, the Kolkata Traffic Police will keep alternate roads around Park Street, free of pedestrian movement.

Pedestrian movement in high-footfall areas, including major malls, will be closely monitored and regulated by dedicated security teams led by inspectors. Additionally, 10 deputy commissioners (DCPs) and hundreds of police personnel will be deployed along Park Street. Police will also carry out raids to prevent drunk driving during the New Year celebrations.
