The Lok Sabha union budget discussion on Thursday afternoon took an ugly turn when former Punjab chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi took a dig at former party colleague Ravneet Singh Bittu. “Your late father (mistakenly said instead of ‘grandfather’) was a martyr but he actually died the day you joined the BJP,” Channi said, targeting the BJP leader Bittu.

Responding to it, the Minister of State, Bittu, said that his grandfather did not lay down his life for Congress but for the country. He also went on to say that he would change his name if Channi could prove that he was poor. He alleged that the Congress MP has the most powerful resources and most money in Punjab to date. The BJP leader also claimed that  Channi was an accused in a sexual harassment case.

Bittu's grandfather, a former Congress chief minister, was assassinated in a suicide bomb attack at the secretariat complex in Chandigarh on August 31, 1995.

Responding to the Congress leader’s “skin colour” remark, Bittu said that it seemed he was referring to Sonia Gandhi and asked the party to prove which country she came from.

Later, Ravneet Bittu said that a former CM is behaving like a traitor and is misleading the entire country through the House.

"He said that NSA has been slapped on farmers. But who has it been actually slapped on - on those who wanted to break the country and Punjab. He said that NSA has been invoked against farmers and this is absolutely incorrect. An ex-CM has spoken about breaking the country and Punjab. Congress and Rahul Gandhi were sitting before him and making him say it. When we told him to bring evidence to the Floor of the House, he went on backfoot and had no reply. Congress party and the entire INDI Alliance are ashamed due to him."
