UPI Payment: The way India pays has completely changed. UPI payments are now used everywhere, from major cities to the smallest villages. The digital shift means you no longer need cash for small or large payments.
With just one click, your money will be transferred instantly into the receiver's bank account. However, the speed can be risky if you send a payment to the wrong address. If this happens, do not panic, as the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has set out clear rules, Jagran.com reported. Here’s the step-by-step guide to get a full refund.

Steps To Get Your Money Back After A Wrong UPI Transfer
- Contact Receiver: First, reach out to the person whose ID or number you mistakenly used to transfer the payment. Request a refund and share a screenshot of the payment as proof.
- Lodge Complaint: If the person who has received the money refuses to return it, file a complaint by calling the toll-free number 1800-120-1740.
- Contact UPI App Support: Talk to the customer care team of the UPI app (like PhonePe, Google Pay, etc.) you used to transfer the money and register your complaint there.
- Inform Your Bank: Contact your own bank regarding the incorrect UPI payment. They can provide assistance and help manage the refund process.
- File With NPCI: Since the UPI transactions are managed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), you can also file a formal complaint directly with them.
