The Food Department team conducted a raid at Rashi Restaurant, located opposite Bundelkhand Medical College and Hospital in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, and uncovered shocking unhygienic conditions: insects in buttermilk, rats in the kitchen, and flies swarming over exposed food. When confronted, the restaurant owner gave a bizarre response: “These are our pets.”
Officials were appalled by the filthy, stench-filled kitchen. Food Inspector Preeti Rai confronted the restaurant owner about the presence of rats, to which he bizarrely replied, “Madam, these rats are our pets.”

According to the NDTV report, the inspection also uncovered the illegal use of a domestic gas cylinder. “This is a domestic cylinder; I brought it in for refilling,” the owner claimed. Food samples were collected for testing, and the restaurant was ordered to be sealed. Authorities directed the owner to rectify the violations within seven days and warned of strict legal action once the test results are out.
The Food Department also cautioned that inspections at other eateries could lead to license cancellations if hygiene norms are not followed, causing panic among local restaurants and hotels.
Earlier, the Food Safety Department revoked the central kitchen licence of Sri Chaitanya Educational Institutions in Madhapur, Hyderabad. This action follows a surprise inspection conducted on January 24 by the Food Safety Task Force, which oversees kitchens supplying food to hostels of Sri Chaitanya Colleges across Greater Hyderabad.
