ADG Law and Order, Uttar Pradesh, Amitabh Yash said, "Sonam Raghuvanshi called her family members at around 3 AM and informed them that she was present at the Kashi Dhaba on Varanasi-Ghazipur main road. Ghazipur Police took her to the hospital and then to the One Stop Centre in Ghazipur. Meghalaya Police was present in Indore to investigate this case. On Monday, the Meghalaya Police alleged that the wife of Raja Raghuvanshi was involved in planning his murder. Days earlier, a breakthrough came when a tourist guide informed the police that he had seen the victim, Raja Raghuvanshi, walking with his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, and three other men.
According to Meghalaya tour guide Albert Pde, the couple were accompanied by three male tourists on the day they went missing from the Sohra area on May 23. He revealed this information on Saturday, June 7.
Pde, a guide at Mawlakhiat, said the three men were with the couple as they climbed over 3,000 steps from Nongriat to Mawlakhiat around 10 am on May 23. He also told PTI that the four men, including the victim, were conversing in Hindi.
"The four men were walking ahead while the woman was behind. The four men were conversing in Hindi, but I could not understand what they were speaking as I know only Khasi and English," he told PTI.
Pde further stated that he had offered to guide the couple to Nongriat on May 22, a day before they went missing. However, they declined his offer and chose to go with another guide named Bha Wansai. According to Pde, the couple spent the night at Shipara Homestay and returned the following day without a guide.
The scooter rented by the couple was later found several kilometres away from Mawlakhiat, abandoned in Sohrarim, with the keys still in the ignition.
"By the time I reached Mawlakhiat, their scooter was not there," he claimed.
According to Meghalaya Police, three arrested men are believed to have been hired to kill Raja Raghuvanshi, allegedly at the behest of his wife, Sonam. She has also been arrested after surrendering at the Nandganj police station in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh.
"One accused from Uttar Pradesh and two more persons were held from Indore by Meghalaya Police SIT. The arrested accused have named some more persons. They revealed that the victim's wife had hired them," Meghalaya Director General of Police I Nongrang, told PTI.
